My passion for working dogs started early in life.
At the age of 10 I would take my mother's dachshunds to the local river to hunt rats (that went down well)!
At the age of 16 I started work as Under Keeper on the Hargham Estate in Norfolk under John Parker, a keen spaniel man, and soon got my first dog. I then moved to the Switherland Estate in Lecestershire, and acquired my first labrador and they have been with me ever since.
I have been breeding and training labradors for more than 30 years.
Pinfeathers kennels was started by myself over 20 years ago
my aim is to breed and train the very best working labradors.
Over the last 20 years the dog world has become more and more obsessed by the stud dog and has forgotten the part the dam plays.
In a recent article in an American Veterinary Journal it was stated that the bitch makes up 75% of the genetic makeup of a dog.
Here at Pinfeathers, we only breed from our girls once they have proven themselves as working dogs and in tests and trials.
We look for a natural hunting ability, nose, pace, a need to please and personality. A dog that will give its all on a working day and then chill out with the family.
As you can imagine we are very fussy about the stud dog we use.
We will not use a dog unless we have seen them working and they have had a thorough health check.
We will meet the owner and have a long chat, and above all meet the dog.
The dog we are using for our next litter is Field Trial Winner DRAKESHEAD ALFIE a great working dog with a big personality.
